Follow Leonardo da Vinci’s steps along Setteponti road

La Gioconda - the bridge

Setteponti is the ancient roman route, Cassia Vetus, which connected Arezzo to Fiesole, long before Florence was founded. We will follow the path Leonardo took during the Renaissance, a trip to study the River Arno. He was so deeply fascinated by the incredible shapes of this landscape, the rocky area named Balze that he reproduced in his works. Crossing Ponte Buriano, a XIII century roman bridge represents in the famous Leonardo masterpiece “La Gioconda”, we will visit Castiglion Fibocchi, a medieval castle which conserves his original structure. Proceeding along the Setteponti we will stop in Borro and in the amazing roman church of Gropina, two places set back in time.
We will reach Loro Ciuffena to see its historical centre perched upon a river which flow past an ancient mill. Our itinerary will take us through Castelfranco di Sopra, Pian di Scò and finally Reggello where you will see one of the best works by Masaccio. Our last stop will be the majestic abbey in the middle of a beech tree forest in Vallombrosa.
